Live in / Live out Full Time Nanny, Birr, Co. Offaly

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for two experienced, professional nannies to join a warm and welcoming family based in Birr, Co. Offaly.

The family are seeking two nannies to work on a rota basis, providing consistent and high-quality childcare and support across the week. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nanny looking for a long-term position within a busy but friendly private household.

The family currently have three children: a 12-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy with autism who is non-verbal, and a 2-year-old child, with a new baby due in January 2027.

The family are looking for candidates who are genuinely passionate about childcare, enjoy being part of family life and are confident working both independently and as part of a small team.

Separate accommodation can be provided for the right candidate.

The Role

This is a 7-day rota position with 45 hours guaranteed per week.

The two nannies will work together on a rota system, ensuring the family has reliable and consistent nanny support throughout the week, including evenings, weekends, school holidays and periods when the family are travelling.

There may occasionally be some overlap between the two nannies, particularly during busy periods, family travel, holidays or to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of care.

The family are looking for nannies who are flexible, reliable and team-oriented, with the ability to take responsibility for their role and use their initiative without needing to be directed throughout the day.

This is a busy household, and the successful candidate will be someone who is naturally proactive and sees what needs to be done, while always maintaining a calm, warm and professional approach.

The Children

The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting the care of children across a range of ages and developmental stages.

• 12-year-old girl – confident and engaging, with age-appropriate support required
• 8-year-old boy – non-verbal and diagnosed with autism; experience with autism and additional needs is highly desirable
• 2-year-old child – requiring nurturing, attentive and age-appropriate care
• New baby due January 2027 – strong newborn and baby experience is essential

The family are looking for someone who will build a genuine and trusting relationship with each child and understand that every child has individual needs, interests and routines.

Duties & Responsibilities

The nanny will be responsible for providing excellent childcare and supporting the parents with the day-to-day running of the children’s routines.

Duties will include:

• Providing warm, attentive and nurturing care for the children
• Caring for the baby and supporting the family following the arrival of the new baby
• Following individual routines, schedules and requirements for each child
• Supporting the 8-year-old child with autism and understanding his individual communication and care needs
• Planning and organising fun, educational and developmentally appropriate activities
• Encouraging outdoor play and activities
• Taking the children on outings such as trips to the park, library, swimming and other child-friendly activities
• Reading, music, creative activities, messy play and age-appropriate educational activities
• Preparing healthy and nutritious meals and snacks
• Supporting the children with mealtimes and encouraging age-appropriate independence
• Children’s laundry and keeping bedrooms, play areas and children’s spaces tidy and organised
• Supporting bath and bedtime routines where required
• Helping the parents during busy family periods
• Working closely with the parents and the other nanny to ensure consistency of care
• Communicating clearly with the family regarding the children’s routines, activities and needs
• Supporting the family during school holidays
• Being willing to travel with the family when required

Experience & Qualifications

Previous professional nanny experience is essential.

The successful candidate must have:

• Strong experience caring for babies and newborns
• Experience with toddlers and school-aged children
• A good understanding of children’s routines, development and age-appropriate activities

Experience or qualifications in autism, special needs, childcare, early years or education would be highly advantageous.

A full, clean driving licence and confidence driving would be a bonus but is not essential.

Family Travel

The family regularly travel during school holidays, and the successful candidate should be happy to accompany the family on trips when required.

A willingness to travel and adapt to different environments is therefore an advantage.

Accommodation
